Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Open <menuchoice><guimenu>Applications</guimenu><guimenuitem>Add/Remove...</guimenuitem></menuchoice>.
Located in internet/C/web-apps.xml:34(para) internet/C/web-apps.xml:57(para) internet/C/web-apps.xml:70(para) internet/C/web-apps.xml:84(para)

First, Add/Remove is obsoleted by Software Center.
Second, most of the package installation descriptions on this page:

https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/internet/C/web-browsing.html

could be replaced with a few apt: URL's and a link to add-applications (if you need more information see add-applications...)

Thanks for reporting this one, too. Add/Remove programs is also still referenced in a couple other places in the docs. In the web-apps.xml file, I think it is probably best to just use apturls as you suggested.

Connor I already made a patch for this one. It needs review though. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/32953470/add-applications.diff
I didnt look at web-apps.xml though.

Shane, that is a different bug. The patch you just linked to is for changing "Third Party Software" to "Other Software" in Software Sources. I'm just about ready to post my patch for this, and it's not really a trivial one. It may need to be slimmed down to just use the apt:url parts.

This patch removes gnome-app-install from gnome-menus-C.ent, and replaces &gnome-app-install in 3 documents. The web-apps.xml file has the most changes. I rewrote directions here to use Software Center, and also provided apt:url capability as an easy alternative.

This patch should probably be applied after the one in bug 441799.

Connor, thank for the patch. In order to keep the number of strings changed to a minimum I've removed the alternative explanation about how to use software-center where apt urls are already provided (removing strings doesn't affect translators, whereas changing them does). But otherwise I've used your patch and committed it.

Matthew, should we open the task against Karmic, then save the full patch for the Lucid dev branch when it becomes available?
