Bug Description

Binary package hint: libmp3lame0

This is on a 9.10 x86_64 system that I upgraded using the alternate CD from Hardy x86_64.

I attempted a forced upgrade of libmp3lame0, but it failed with the following information.

Unpacking libmp3lame0 (from .../libmp3lame0_3.98.2+debian-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libmp3lame0_3.98.2+debian-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libmp3lame.so.0.0.0', which is also in package liblame0 0:3.97-0.0
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/libmp3lame0_3.98.2+debian-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Thanks for your report.

There is a conflict between libmp3lame0 and liblame0 which is not provided with ubuntu since intrepid. The workaround is to remove liblame0 before installing libmp3lame0.

There should probably be a replace rule between both packages. I'll let the devs handle it from here.

Don't hesitate to submit any new bug.

This is currently preventing upgrades in some situations on karmic, requiring the user to know how to work around it. I've back-ported the changes in control file for karmic. This was built in my ppa and successfully allowed me to continue my dist-upgrade.

Therefore can this be pushed to karmic-proposed/karmic-updates to allow others to upgrade easily.
