Bug Description

I used the Synaptic Package Manager to upgrade my DELL Inspiron B130 laptop from Breezy to Dapper. It went for quite a while, then broke with this error:

A fatal error occured.
Please report this as a bug and include the files /var/log/dist-upgrade.log and / var/log/dist-upgrade-apt.log in your report. The upgrade aborts now.
Your original sources.list was saved in /etc/apt/sources.list.distUpgrade.

Traceback (most recent call last):
...
File "/usr/lib/python2.4/ConfigParser.py", line 511, in get
raise NoSectionError(section)
NoSectionError: no section: 'Distro'

The laptop boots, but clearly something went wrong. I now have an upgrade CD to use. I'm happy to provide the files mentioned above, but cannot until I get a network connection working (ethernet or wireless). When I click the wlan0 connection in the top menu bar, I get this error: SIOCGIFFLAGS error: no such device.

What does 'Distro' mean and how can I fix it?
What do I do with the original sources.list file?
What should be my next step? Repeat the upgrade from CD?

I attempted to reproduce this, but it now seems impossible to upgrade from breezy to dapper (under kvm). Since breezy is now also quite unsupported, I wonder if it might not be OK to just close this bug, since it doesn't seem to affect upgrades from later versions of Ubuntu?

Michael, what do you think?

Michael agreed that this bug can be closed. I apologise for using the "invalid" state, but Launchpad has no better one (it needs an "obsolete" state). Summary: bug occurred during breezy-dapper upgrade, never again since, and can't be reproduced anymore. Judy, if you think we should keep this open, please re-open or ask me to do so.
