say does not make a sound

Bug Description

Binary package hint: epos

When installing epos and running say from the command line, no sound is generated. Erroneous default config or missing dependency?

How to replicate: on a freshly updated 9.10 install, sudo aptitude install epos then

$ say Test
tes%t^######T
Could not open localsound device, error 2
Client side error: Could not set up a stream

It seems you need to run the eposd daemon to get the epos version of 'say' to say anything.

Still could be considered a bug if it's not obvious to the end user? At least the error message could be more informative (e.g. "You need to start epod -- type .... ")

I can reproduce the problem even after starting eposd.
