Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

RELEASE: Lucid Lynx
CD/DVD VARIANT: Xubuntu desktop i386
ISO BUILD: 2010-02-24.1

SYMPTOMS:
Using desktop cd to install from live environment. If install is done without an internet connection, manual partitioning fails. "ubi-partman crashed". "ubi-partman failed with exit code 141. further information may be found in /var/log/syslog. Do you want to try running this step again before continuing? If you do not, your installation may fail entirely or may be broken." Any choice to continue will result in the same error.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

   1. Start the desktop cd
   2. Choose "Try without installing"
   3. From the live environment, start the installation
   4. If there is no internet connection, this is reproducable every time I run it.

Logs were generated with ubiquity -d and adding debug= at the menu

I'm also experiencing this problem with Ubuntu Lucid Alpha 3 AMD64.

I try to make manual partitioning, I create /dev/sdb3 and fails with the error: "ubi-partman failed with exit code 141"

The bug seems similar to bug #525081 and #527057
I'll try to post some debug info tomorrow

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.1.29

---------------
ubiquity (2.1.29) lucid; urgency=low

  [ Evan Dandrea ]
  * Align description labels to the top left on the user-setup page and get
rid of the width request (LP: #524827).
  * Fix references to create_label and allow_change_step in the KDE
    frontend's PartMan module (LP: #527932).
  * str.split returns a list of one empty string when splitting on an
    empty string.
  * Update the KDE frontend with the new slideshow location (as of
    ubiquity-slideshow 15).
  * The timezone is perfectly usable at half its width and height, so
only request that. This also means we're not trying to guess how
much space we can reasonably take up with the map, but rather
letting the rest of the interface determine the width and height of
    the installer window.
  * If the screen resolution is particularly low (< 600px height), allow
the user to scroll through the user setup page content.
  * Left-align the labels on the segmented_bars.
  * Make the segmented_bars narrower.
  * Set the width of the language selection treeview to the minimum
required to fit the contents. Do not allow it to expand.
  * Move the greeter functionality into ubiquity itself, still
accessible with the maybe-ubiquity boot option (LP: #530713).
  * Automatic update of included source packages: netcfg 1.51ubuntu2,
    partconf 1.32ubuntu1, partman-base 138ubuntu1.

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * Fix choose_partition thawing to handle free space at the end of
    update_partitions (LP: #527848).

Jaun: this was just fixed, it is different from the other two bugs. That is why they were marked fixed before this one was. You can try again tomorrow using the daily-live image and see if you still have this issue. If so, please file a new report. It will not be fixed in the alpha3 image.

I am still experiencing this error on my HP5102 with todays UNR image. My ubiquity version is 2.1.33. Also error 141 and the syslog looks pretty identical to the one posted here.

As my network card doesn't work in the installer, I have some troubles getting logs easily for you.

the issue still persist. I was able to reproduce the issue using the daily-build from March 10th.

The error is the ubi-partman exit code 141. Then, in the syslog, it shows:

Device /dev/sda4 not found in os-prober output. as there are no OS installed on that partition.

When I ran the command

sudo os-prober

I only see the output shows:

/dev/sda1: ubuntu 9.04
/dev/sda3: ubutnu lucid

but not the /dev/sda4...

Hope this information help,

Not necessarily so... if I choose "Install Kubuntu" instead of "Try Kubuntu" I do not get the option to update the installer.*
