Bug Description

the br translation for ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu has the following string:

#: slideshows/ubuntu/slides/translations.html:4
msgid ""
"Ubuntu's translations are contributed by our generous users. Feel free to "
"help out at <a href=\"http://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu\">launchpad."
"net</a>."
msgstr ""
"Ubuntu zo troet a-drugarez da strivoù hon arveriaded brokus. C'hwi ivez a "
"c'hall kemer perzh en droidigezh war <a href=\"http://translations.launchpad."
"net/ubuntu\">launchpad.net</a> ha war <a href=\"http://brenux.tuxfamily.org/"
"\">lec'hienn Brenux</a> !"

I'm not familiar with http://brenux.tuxfamily.org, and have removed the msgstr from the translation in the ubiquity-slideshow source package. Could someone please clarify what this website is and what it's affiliation with Ubuntu is? Or, if it was added in error, could someone please remove the string?

Thanks!

it's a forom aiming to help volunteers who want to translate Ubuntu into
Breton. I'ts seems to be out of order since a while though.

Hello,

I didn't know that translations were checked like that, that's quite
good. brenux.tuxfamily.org is the website of the breton translators
team. We use this website and his forum in order to organize our
translations. Ubuntu in the breton language is represented by this site
if you want. It is like ubunt-fr.org.

But if you think that it musn't be in a string, you can remove it of
course. It is not an advertisement or something like that.

Hi all,
Brenux forum is where Ubuntu translators meet. I think it can (should) appear in the ubiquity-slideshow-Ubuntu, even if not ubuntu official resource.
The forum is very useful and works fine for the needs.
Have fun !

Hi Denis,

Right now the translations should be direct, communicating precisely what the original msgid communicates.

I would love to see deeper localizaiton for our web infrastructure, but this isn't the place to do it. (For example, it would be interesting if Launchpad Translations was structured more like a community hub).
It's really important to keep in mind that this, as shipped, needs to work for 5 years. By sticking with official resources, we can be very confident of that.

Same deal for our support links. The links to ubuntu.com/support and ubuntu.com/community are used because we can guarantee their continued existence for 5 years and (of course) they are official. Content within those can be tailored to specific audiences and is kept up to date as the landscape changes.

On a different subject, though, at risk of derailing the bug report (sorry!), do you feel that pointing users directly to translate.launchpad.net is flawed? Maybe there is a different web resource that makes sense for all cases.

All those arguments are acceptable, I changed the string on the appropriate page.
It should close this bug.

Fulup, you probably don't use a "free" web browser... MS IE has problem to read some css features of the Brenux web interface.

Have fun !
