Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

While Colin and Cody did excellent work on implementing a live CD greeter for the foundations-lucid-gfxboot-update specification, the installer design specification calls for this functionality to be moved into ubiquity. I've implemented this as ubiquity r3858 (attached), and request that it be given a feature freeze exception.

I've tested this functionality myself, both in greeter mode and without the greeter option.

There's associated work in gfxboot-theme-ubuntu (see the foundations-lucid-gfxboot-update specification). This is ready to go now; the boot screen looks like http://assets.grimaceworks.com/boot-screen.png, and any key press there takes us through to the main menu as before. If the timeout expires while on that screen, we'll boot through to Evan's ubiquity change.

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 2.1.29

---------------
ubiquity (2.1.29) lucid; urgency=low

  [ Evan Dandrea ]
  * Align description labels to the top left on the user-setup page and get
    rid of the width request (LP: #524827).
  * Fix references to create_label and allow_change_step in the KDE
    frontend's PartMan module (LP: #527932).
  * str.split returns a list of one empty string when splitting on an
    empty string.
  * Update the KDE frontend with the new slideshow location (as of
    ubiquity-slideshow 15).
  * The timezone is perfectly usable at half its width and height, so
    only request that. This also means we're not trying to guess how
    much space we can reasonably take up with the map, but rather
    letting the rest of the interface determine the width and height of
    the installer window.
  * If the screen resolution is particularly low (< 600px height), allow
    the user to scroll through the user setup page content.
  * Left-align the labels on the segmented_bars.
  * Make the segmented_bars narrower.
  * Set the width of the language selection treeview to the minimum
    required to fit the contents. Do not allow it to expand.
  * Move the greeter functionality into ubiquity itself, still
    accessible with the maybe-ubiquity boot option (LP: #530713).
  * Automatic update of included source packages: netcfg 1.51ubuntu2,
    partconf 1.32ubuntu1, partman-base 138ubuntu1.

  [ Colin Watson ]
  * Fix choose_partition thawing to handle free space at the end of
    update_partitions (LP: #527848).

---------------
gfxboot-theme-ubuntu (0.9.3) lucid; urgency=low

  * Update translations from Launchpad (LP: #527052).
  * Change "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" strings to "Ubuntu Netbook" (LP: #518718).
    Adjust translations where I could do so accurately.
  * Remove unused imgsize, showlogo, and readimage functions.
  * If hidden-timeout=1 is set in gfxboot.cfg, then try to display a splash
    window before the main window, displaying the contents of access.pcx at
    the bottom of the screen. If the timeout expires on this screen, then
    the default menu item will be booted without ever showing the main menu;
    conversely, any key press will show the main menu. The idea of this is
    to avoid everyone having to see a complicated main menu, while offering
    a visual indication that you need to press a key to get to it
    (LP: #530713).
