Bug Description

xubuntu-desktop depends on libsdl1.2debian-alsa while ubuntu-desktop depends on libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio. The two libsdl packages conflict and thus it is not possible to have both desktops installed at the same time. I wonder if there is a technical reason for this or if the packages could simply depend on "libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio|libsdl1.2debian-alsa".

This bug was fixed in the package xubuntu-meta - 2.107

---------------
xubuntu-meta (2.107) lucid; urgency=low

  * Refreshed dependencies
  * Removed policykit-gnome from desktop lp: #530829
  * Refreshed dependencies
  * Added libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio to desktop, we already ship
    gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio instead of gstreamer0.10-alsa by default
    because of gdm, so no need to keep libsdl1.2debian-alsa. lp: #531161
  * Removed libsdl1.2debian-alsa from desktop

I don't have a 'xubuntu-meta' package in my Ubuntu installation. I see that it is a PPA. So to install 'xubuntu-desktop' on an Ubuntu installation, I have to add the 'xubuntu-meta' package from a PPA? Wow, that's not very convenient at all and is a ludicrous work-around. I can't see "moms and pops" managing this and they -- nor anyone else -- should have to. Seems a really poor solution, unless I'm completely missing something.

Using Lucid. Well I can't figure out what to do with this 'xubuntu-meta' package. There is a .dsc file and a tar.gz with instructions about rebuilding lists and installing debootstrap. And then there are normal 'xubuntu-desktop' files which I have access to via aptitude anyway (same version). How do I install 'xubuntu-desktop' in an Ubuntu installation, when a normal 'sudo aptitude install xubuntu-desktop' refuses to install because of alsa/pulseaudio dependency conflicts.

SabreWolfy:
1. You don't install xubuntu-meta or ubuntu-meta. They are installed with the xubuntu-desktop/ubuntu-desktop packages.
2. If you are experiencing issues installing "xubuntu-desktop", please file a new bug for that issue. That is not this bug.
