Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

using karmic livecd.

the dialog text goes like this:

----
The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions:

/dev/sda

Do you want the installer to try to unmount the partitions on these disks before continuing? If you leave them mounted, you will not be able to create, delete, or resize partitions on these disks, but you may be able to install to existing partitions there.

(buttons at the end are "No" and "Yes")
----

this text is confusing. by the time i got to the yes and no buttons i was surprised because i no longer have a question in my mind. the last thing i had in mind was an explanation about what i will not be able to do to certain partitions, why do i need yes or no for that?

i think this wording is better

----
The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions:

/dev/sda

If you leave them mounted, you will not be able to create, delete, or resize partitions on these disks, but you may be able to install to existing partitions there. Do you want the installer to try to unmount the partitions on these disks before continuing?

(buttons at the end "Yes, try to unmount" and "No, keep them mounted")
----

somewhat related bug #346589, bug #363069, bug #193270

note: i am using the karmic livecd, but i checked the source package here https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/2.2.5 and as far as i understand this same dialog text is still on the lucid beta livecd.

I had this at my last install. Seems it comes up either when external hard drive or USB disk attached and mounted or (and this is when it becomes important per what I see) when you - like I did - before installing check out what is on the hard drive of the computer and thus mount and open one or more partition there.
It happened to me with the latest 13.04 installer from Live CD mode.
Should be changed as suggested above.

This is not new at all, this is something old and the bug's date proves that. Yes, it is still happening only when you have mounted some partitions while you are on the LiveCD (Try ... without installation) and it should never be shown or appeared while choosing "Install ..." so it is just on the LiveCD/LiveUSB mode.

It usually happens to me on the Partitions Window (I always choose Something else) but as far as I remember, I think it happened on other steps but not quite sure about that and I am very positive it appeared on the Partitioning Step.

Thanks!

By the way, I don't see any problem with that. Is that even a bug? I'm thinking it is quite simple that you need to unmount the partitions that you have mounted on the LiveCD/LiveUSB mode so there is nothing wrong IMHO :)

We can make the message even smaller with less words:

The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions:

/dev/sda

Do you want the installer to unmount the partitions on these disks before continuing? it is recommended to unmount them before continuing.

(buttons at the end are "No" and "Yes")
