Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release: 10.04

apt-cache policy rhythmbox
rhythmbox:
  Installiert: 0.12.7-0ubuntu7
  Kandidat: 0.12.7-0ubuntu7
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 0.12.7-0ubuntu7 0
        500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

When I click on the tray symbol, it says "Show Rhythmbox". Clicking this, Rhythmbox appears. But then I see no possibility to minimize it in the tray again, the symbol still says "Show Rhythmbox", clicking it does not change anything.

the dialog can be sent to the tray by closing it if the option to not exit on close is activated in gconf-editor

Setting to triaged , since this is the intended behavior after the application-indicator port.

The menu is designed to always stay at "Show Rhythmbox" ,
If RB is minimized , selecting the menu shows RB.
If RB is in a different workspace or behind other windows , , selecting the option shows RB .

Minimizing is by selecting "close" from the title bar window controls

Would it be possible then, to have different applications in the tray behave the same? Transmission and Rhythmbox, both in the indicator-applet, behave different: Rhythmbox shows up, no matter how it was before, Transmission opens or closes, depending on if it was open or not. Would be good, if both would react the same.

I'm just an interested user, but I find the current maverick (packages up to date) behavior counter-intuitive. It is possible I am alone in this but maybe not. Consider:

Start RB from Sound Indicator in the tray
Start some music playing

Now - I would hope to be able to minimise Rhythmbox back to the Sound Indicator and have the music continue playing however ...

Minimising rhythmbox obviously minimises to the panel
Clicking the cross obviously closes the window
This feels normal and expected

There doesn't appear to be a way to minimise to the sound indicator. The 'Status Icon' plugin does what it says on the tin and works, but I guess the thing is I don't see the point in having a separate RB tray icon alongside the sound indicator functionality?

why the indicator would be a container for minimized dialogs? the designer said that running software should be somewhere on screen, you can just minimize the player, it will be in the tasklist which makes it easy to reach and don't waste screen space.
