Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub

I installed Xubuntu 8.04, installed all upgrades. I then upgraded using 'update-manager -d' to lucid. With lucid installed, I am missing all previous grub entries from the hard drive. I have a Lucid installation I have been using for over a month, that is not in the grub menu. Grub stayed at grub legacy, but did not add the existing installation.

Howdy, and thank you for helping to improve Ubuntu by opening this ticket. The wording on your ticket is not entirely clear to me - could you answer a question?

You say that you "have a Lucid installation I have been using for over a month, that is not in the grub menu." Was that an upgrade, or a fresh install? A fresh install would have been grub2 originally, and then the Xubuntu 8.04 would have likely overwritten that with grub legacy.

I installed karmic using sda1 for /, sdc1 for /home. I then upgraded that Xubuntu 9.10 to Lucid. When I did this installation, I installed 8.04 to sdb1, and it did install grub legacy. When I upgraded that installation to Lucid, it keeps grub legacy, does not recognize my lucid installation. Neither Xubuntu 8.04 or the upgrade to lucid sees the installation on sda1.
