I am sorry, but I cannot list the packages that I updated today.
Before I commited this bug, just in case I upgraded and restarted my computer a few times but the problem still occured.
But now after some more updates the problem seems to be fixed. Bluetooth works again like earlier.

Hi,

I've got a MacBookPro 6,2, which contains the same broadcom bluetooth chip (BCM2046B1). After a clean install of Lucid, bluetooth is not working, while it works fine in MacOSX. I'll try to test with Karmic later, but I though I'd report this first.

Comment #9 on bug #277211 indicates that the Bluetooth device is in reality

Bus 003 Device 003: ID 413c:8126 Dell Computer Corp. Wireless 355 Bluetooth

Its absence probably means that it's turned off and should somehow be turned on.

I'm having the same problem on a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro.

On OS X there is one more device than in Linux on my MBP:

I'm not able to find any info about this. The manufacturer is Apple, but that's about it.

I have a Samsung RV511 running ocelot, with a USB BCM2046 bluetooth dongle.

I can confirm that upon hotplugging the dongle, lsusb shows that device is registered, however as other have pointed out, hcitool scan returns: "Device is not available: No such device". I also experienced the issue of the gnome applet pretty much not doing anything useful.

In my case, the problem was solved by installing the bluez-compat package. No further issues with the device. Hope that helps!

Same problem on Macbook 5,1 Unibody on Precise. Sometime it works (maybe after poweroff) but most of the time does not. Maybe there is a reset missing for the device.
