Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

When I disconnect the power adapter from my laptop, I get a notification saying that I have less than 4% battery power remaining and that the system needs to be shut down, even though my battery is fully charged. Also, the battery icon looks like it's empty but if I open the battery info window, it shows up as being fully charged. The system doesn't shut down, only warns about it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. A new version of GNOME Power Manager is available on Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

Yes and no; when I unplug the cable, a dialog comes up saying that "Batteri power in laptop is critically low. The computer will be put in sleep mode soon if it's not plugged in to an external power source" and a notification saying "0:02 remain...". But the battery indicator applet shows the correct amount of power.

This bug is still present in the latest updates of Ubuntu 10.10. Not a huge issue but still kind of unaestetical. Hope it's OK if I reopen it.

Lenovo T510 here too.

I think I remember reading somewhere that it might be caused by a chip which can be configured to report the battery parameters in either watt-hours or amp-hours, and somewhere along the line the units get confused or the chip is changed from one unit to another. I can't find where I read this, but it might be worth investigating.

Still present on Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 with my Thinkpad X220. After resume the battery icon is wrong (empty, red box) even if the battery is completely charged.

I installed oneiric from today and the problem is gone. So IMO this bug report can be closed.

Not everyone is willing to upgrade to Oneiric as just yet. I have a 10.04 in a Lenovo T410 and this is far the most stable Ubuntu version I have ever used.
I confirm that this bug affects me as well and as Colin mentioned, restarting upowerd seemed to temporarily fix the problem.
