I should also mention that this was on Ubuntu 6.06.

How do I install the old xserver so I can use my laptop until this problem is resolved?

Brent,

thanks for the bug report.

Do you have any external repositories enabled on this machine (such as for support for Xgl or AIGLX) ?

To install the old version of xorg-server-core, please type:

sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.2

Also, please note that, apparently this is more a support request than a bug report.

If possible, please confirm if this bug is fixed for you, or if there is any other missing piece on the equation.

Changed in xorg:
importance: Untriaged → Low
status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

I found that thread on ubuntuforums, so I installed xerver-xorg-core and -dev ubuntu10.4 and everything works!

No, this is a six year old laptop...not XGL or AIGLX enabled.

Thanks everyone :)

Hello,

I've had the same problem. I had installed the current xserver-xorg-core for Dapper 6.06 LTS update from today and rebooted. X did not start. The message "No devices detected" appeared in the logs, though I did not have GLcore errors.

Updating to xserver-xorg-core 1.0.2-0ubuntu10.4 cured the problem.
