Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Using Lucid,

When pressing ctrl-alt-F1 the machine trys to enter the virtual console, but I am unable to see it. All that happens is that mouse pointer disappears and I am left with a non-responsive gnome desktop until I press ctrl-alt-F7. sometimes the machine will not go back to the F7 tty screen and I have to reboot.

I just upgraded from 9.10 (64-bit) to 10.04 (64-bit), and I'm having the same problem now where as before on 9.10, I didn't have this problem. My machine is an HP Pavilion dv9823cl series laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M.

I'm seeing this issue, but not everywhere.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 with a nVidia GeForce FX Go5650 that works properly.
I have a Dell Precision M65 with a nVidia Quadro FX 350M that does not work. All I get is a flashing cursor.

Does this have anything to do with the graphics a particular system is or isn't running?

This is affecting my recent lucid install on a nvidia geoforce card on an HP Pavilion DM3.

I hope that we can find a solution to this: having to reboot after attempting to switch to a tty is hardly the point of accessing a tty.

Will go to the tty but won't return into X.

A "solution" is to first log into a terminal session before you log into X. Then i can navigate again with crtl+alt+Function

I am affected by this bug in natty. Strange thing: after I press ctrl+alt+f1 the cursor disappears, but i can blindly type in login, password, and some commands. They are executed, I can even stop gdm ))
It seems that the intel driver can not switch video mode.

Hmm. The tty is back if I switch with vgaswicheroo to another card, and then switch back.
