Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-session

HP Pavilion dv7 laptop.

Enabling touchpad lock button locks up the keyboard after it. None of the keys except CTRL+ALT+DEL work.
Unlocking the touchpad enables the mouse but keyboard is still locked up. Furthermore gnome-panel doesnot respond to mouse clicks.

After this only option is to reboot by going ctrl+alt+del way

In my case, the bug shows up when clicking the button to disable the touchpad. Once clicked, no gnome panel, no keyboard, just the USB mouse moving (useless). The only thing that works (for a short period of time) is ctrl-alt-del.

To reproduce:

1. reboot (after suspend the bug is not reproducible)
2. ensure, that the touch-pad lock is inactive
3. start gedit / firefox
4. enter a letter in a text-field
5. activate the touch-pad lock
6. try enter a letter in the text-field => should not work

for additional symptoms check out #576059 (marked as duplicate of this)

Add the HP Pavillion DV7-3165DX to that list. Initially I thought it was just a random lock up with the same symptoms. But it seems that you are right about the Touchpad lock. Good catch.

Tried on 10.10 (with gnome-shell) and the bug is there also. Te attatched log (.xsession-errors) shows the moment when error happened and then me trying to reboot.

I have this bug on an Acer Aspire 5542 laptop. Can be avoided, but I think it's pretty nasty as it lockup up the PC....consider raising the priority.
