Xorg freeze: "Failed to schedule IB" Radeon X1200

I have the same error with an ATI X800.

I have the same error with an ATI X1950 pro (on Linux Mint 9 Isadora).

Is this the same thing?

#4 No. In this case the screen doesn't jump or wraps. Simply it freezes. You can move the mouse, you can click anywhere but nothing occurs because the graphics have hanged up.

The only thing you can do is press Ctrl + Alt + F1.

In Karmic Koala this bug wasn't present. I updated from Karmic to Lucid and i had this bug. Later, i did a new install of Lucid and i had this bug too. It's a very sodding bug. It occurs me all days and you must restart the machine to continue. I thought it was a firefox bug because a lot of times appears when you try to open a new link on it.

I've the same as songohan82, except I do not face this problem every day (lucky me!) and that for my part it doesn't seem to be related to Firefox at all.

I'd like to add that I'm a frequent user of "suspend" when I travel to/from work, just in case this is a factor.

I can work around this by disabling KMS, i.e. saying:

options radeon modeset=0

in e.g. /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-no-kms.conf

I have this problem after system locks screen due to inactivity (30 min, in my case). I have a ThinkPad T42, lspci shows VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] (rev 02).

i got the error too, can't find any working solution in the world wide web. any suggestions? i can't do anything after the freeze, even strg+alt+f1 does not work.

i tried pci=nomsi as bootoption and the option from #7

messages stopped after the last line, and the notebook has been locked again. i restarted, got ne error messages, but a black screen and could do nothing.

Looks like I may have the same error. It first occurred after I updated the packages below. So far, the error occurs every time I reboot, but the "onset" varies. Sometimes the system freezes before the login screen even comes up, other times it freezes at the login screen, and a few times I've been able to login and start doing things before the system froze (but never for more than a few minutes).

When the system's frozen, Ctrl + Alt + F1 won't work. However, I did manage to get logged into tty1 *before* a freeze and observed the "Faild to schedule IB" errors.

The setting from #7 didn't work for me.

I can confirm this bug using Ubuntu 10.04 on a HP Compaq 6715s with a Radeon X1200. The screen freezes except the cursor. In tty(x) the above posted error message keeps rolling. Me as well I had the impression this was connected to a certain homepage I opened in Firefox, can't be sure though. I haven't made any upgrades.

Very annoying since the only 'solution' is a brutal restart.

Left the PC unattended with a video in fullscreen mode, screensaver came on at some point, and then the display got messed up. Restarting gdm didn't fix it. Could still see the mouse move, but everything else was garbled. Using Gnome classic (not Unity) with Compiz.

I've been getting this same issue starting about a week ago (~Oct. 1 2011) on Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity. I can't remember it occurring any other time except when I have Gnome Terminal maximized (which has often been the case recently), and it seems to happen about every few hours.

Same problem, Ubuntu 11.10, Radeon HD 6570, anyone knows the solution?

I was experiencing a similar one after upgrading to 11.10 - garbage on the screen, and "*ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB" flooding in dmesg.

Luckily, installing the latest kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ solved the issue for me (I've used 3.1.0-rc9).

I too have this problem. How do you install the latest kernel?

Hi! I know this is closed but I'm getting the same "*ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB" error flooding all ttys and the screen doesn't respond to clicks. Can only use reset switch to reboot. I have a custom built computer with a Radeon X1900 video card. This started a little over a week ago and frequents about once a day sometimes every other day. I don't use firefox, just chrome for browsing and lots of java.
