Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

When I receive a new message in a not-yet-open conversation, the indicator message icon becomes green, but I don't see any notification.
The notification is shown as soon as I open the conversation (quite useless)

I have selected some options in empathy preferences:
checked -> enable bubble notifications
not checked -> disable notifications when away or busy
checked -> enable notifications when the chat is not focused

There might be a mess in gconf->dconf
where can I find dconf settings? (or somethig like gconf-editor for dconf)

Yes I restarted several times.
actually dconf-tools shows that preferences are saved correctly.
I've also tried to toggle the option, but the result is always the same.

when I tried to reproduce I had the chat window minimized (not close) to reproduce the chat window should be closed. the icon would turn green but no notification. if the chat window is minimized then there are notifications.

Issue confirmed here. Changing to high because we need to make sure that upon first notifications a bubble notification is sent.

The problem does not happen with the notification area so I guess the problem is with our libindicate patch

My testing (in Lucid) seems to shown that notifications happen when the windows are minimised to the task bar, but not when when they are unminimised and out of focus. Evolution provides new mail notifications when it is out of focus and unminimised. But things are more complicated with Empathy as there is a Contact List window and a possible Conversation window. If the Conversation window is open, then that should control notifications, but if the Conversation Window is not open, then the Contact List window should control notifications. I guess you guys have probably worked that one out already.
