Binary package hint: indicator-sound
In Ubuntu Maverick, the sound indicator crashes if Rhythmbox is currently playing music from Last.FM. It works fine if Rhythmbox isn't running, or if it's playing from another source.

indicator-sound (0.4.2-0ubuntu1) maverick; urgency=low
* New upstream release fixing those issues
- Media Buttons should trigger action only on button release (lp: #624610)
- Mouse wheel no longer works to change volume (lp: #620858)
- Crashes if Rhythmbox is playing from Last.FM (lp: #627505)
