Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Currently (as of mesa git master from 20100908) Intel Sandybridge GPU's do not function correctly with mesa and correct 3D support is not planned until the 2010Q4 release in december which will not be included in Maverick. Starting a gnome session on one of these devices results in a black screen unless compiz is manually disabled. These devices may be released before 11.04 ships and hence using 10.10 could be expected, so we should blacklist compiz for now until things are fixed upstream so the basic desktop works.

The PCI id's were obtained from commits to xf86-video-intel:

  * Update 060_move_checks_to_compiz.patch to add Intel Sandybridge pci id's
to the blacklist, the mesa dri driver claims it instead of swrast so
compiz tries to use it but does not work currently. (LP: #633376)

has this been removed in natty ? I am now running i5-2500k with maverick and the latest xorg code from the xorg-edgers ppa and i just had to remove this patch to get compiz working on my setup. can't see any problems so far.
