Bug Description

edgy-desktop-i386 CD from 10/1/2006 starts graphical boot, puts up loading dots for /casper/vmlinux and casper/initrd.gz, then freezes showing:

[17179573.860000] PCI: JMB36x: Enabling dual function on 0000:03:00.0
[17179573.880000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0000:03:00.0
[17179573.880000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 1 of device 0000:03:00.0
[17179573.880000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 2 of device 0000:03:00.0
[17179573.880000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 3 of device 0000:03:00.0
[17179573.880000] PCI: Error while updating region 0000:03:00.0/0 [0000c000 != 00000000]
[17179573.880000] PCI: Error while updating region 0000:03:00.0/2 [0000c000 != 00000000]

With 'acpi=off' added to boot options, same freeze except initial numbers are slightly different:

[ 0.044000] PCI: JMB36x: Enabling dual function on 0000:03:00.0
[ 0.064000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of device 0000:03:00.0
[ 0.064000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 1 of device 0000:03:00.0
[ 0.064000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 2 of device 0000:03:00.0
[ 0.064000] PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 3 of device 0000:03:00.0
[ 0.064000] PCI: Error while updating region 0000:03:00.0/0 [0000c000 != 00000000]
[ 0.064000] PCI: Error while updating region 0000:03:00.0/2 [0000c000 != 00000000]

with 'noquiet' and 'acpi=off' both at boot, the screen stops scroll after:

...
[ 0.522580] Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE Driver Revision: 7.00alpha2
[ 0.522619] ide: Assuming 33MHz system bus speed for PIO modes: override with idebus=xx

ECS P965T-A mobo (965 north, ICH8 southbridge), ver 1.0f BIOS (dated 9/15/2006). 4GB RAM, E6600 CPU. Using PATA optical drive and hard disk, no SATA devices attached. NVidia PCI-Ex 7600 video card. No other addon cards installed.

Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test your bug using the LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.
