Bug Description

Binary package hint: xubuntu-docs

Instructions in desktop-guide/internet/C/troubleshooting.xml state that one has to open /etc/modprobe.d/aliases, search for "alias net-pf-10 ipv6" and change the preceding line to disable IPv6. The /etc/modprobe.d/aliases file is not present in Xubuntu 10.10 by default. Need verifiable directions to disable IPv6 in Xubuntu.

I recall altering some grub config file and then updating grub so at each bootup, the command is read to disable IPv6, would that be a viable option?

While I am confirming this bug, the issue should no longer be relevant. The applicable files have been patched to allow use of IPv6 whether or not it is now available. However, if we decide we need to tell users how to disable it, the following applies:

Disable IPv6 in /etc/default/grub by adding this line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="ipv6.disable=1"
and than updating GRUB: sudo update-grub

I would not think we need to do this, however. Users should not be disabling IPv6 anymore, since it should not be an issue now.
