Bug Description

I just upgraded my Eee 1005HA netbook from Lucid to Maverick. A few minutes after logging in to an Ubuntu Desktop session, the X server crashes and I am returned to the login screen. An attempt at a gdb backtrace is attached as well as the apport stuff.

Didn't happened for me the last few logins since i re-installed the latest nvidia driver.

Think for me it was caused by some files of the nvidia driver in lucid being replaced through some ubuntu files... or something like that... i dont know...

It was just random that it didn't happened anymore for me, since yesterday it happens again - but still only for the first logon. But nothing in the logs that could help... Only ~/.xsession-errors contains a "XIO error:", but that's all.

Similar problem here. My xsession dies as soon as there is lots of cpu load. I had to remove "tracker" only to see my desktopbackground and panels...

I'm not sure which errorlogs to post here..

Same problem. My X session dies and returns to the login screen at random times. I get similar error messages concerning "Could not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings': no such name"
also "XIO error"

I'm having the same issue here. At first I thought it was MythTV related, but on further investigation (and crashes without myth running), it appears to be either driver or Xorg related.

I suspect this may be a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mythtv/+bug/660833 in another shape.

I've noticed that almost each time this "login-crash" happens, there are two cpu-eating process corpses from the crashed session: nautilus and compiz.

Also there are graphical glitches in the top left corner of the screen. See the attached screenshot.

I get the same error too. I've upgrade to natty as soon as the 1st alpha was released. And now it keeps logging me out.

How can the importance of this bug be "undecided"? It's a show-stopper! I think this should finally be taken serious, its annoying like hell.

If anybody wanna try to fix this, i will be available for testing and providing all data you want. Just say what's needed. But this needs to be fixed really. Since there is no way to avoid it seemingly you can't install ubuntu on a friends pc simply because he will be back to windows anyway if he runs into this -.-

Scott Zeid, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given you already have done this in a prior release, performing this on a release prior to Trusty would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
