Bug Description

Laptop MSI 1039; edgy eft up to date; generic kernel
to reproduce: power is on (not battery)
press power on switch -- always hangs in this mode (i.e. normal boot)
if regular boot (non-quiet, splash, multi) gets to loading hardware drivers and hangs
if recovery/single and I let it sit at grub menu for awhile sometimes works
if recovery/single and boot in quick hangs on an hda dma error message
to boot I have to unplug power and charger connector (not certain if that is important or not) and let grub menu hang out for awhile (30 sec?) then boot into recovery; if successful I then reboot ... or ...
dual boot WinXP always boots clean (!!) so boot into WinXP then reboot to ubuntu
LAPTOP ALWAYS REBOOTS OK (restarts) from either WinXP or any flavor of Linux

I'll be glad to email/phone someone who is trying to debug/fix this

I'm the original reporter of the bug in Edgy. I recently upgraded my laptop with this problem to Feisty and the problem went completely away.

I don't know if that helps anyone sort out the source of the problem so that the fix could be backported to Edgy.

On my end I won't be able to test an Edgy fix for this since I'm now running Feisty.

We are sorry that we didn't get to your bug report earlier, but the 18 month support period for Edgy Eft, 6.10, has reached it's end of life and we are marking the linux-source-2.6.17 task as Won't fix. I'll additionally open a linux-source-2.6.20 task, Feisty's kernel, and mark that as Fix Released based off your last comment.

Changed in linux-source-2.6.17:
status: New → Won't Fix
Changed in linux-source-2.6.20:
status: New → Fix Released
