Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Ubuntu 6.10 "Edgy Eft" RC does not work on my Acer Aspire 5102WLMi notebook computer.

When starting from the live CD, an error comes up about not being able to load the GNOME settings daemon. The interface still loads, but the "Human" theme is not there. When I try to install Ubuntu to my local hard drive, it gives the following error message:

Nevermind. I tried the install a second time, and it was succesful. Strange... I didn't change anything (to my knowledge).

Well, if you have to report a crash when installing again, please consider attaching /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman to the bug, by commenting on the bug's web page?
This helps a lot, figuring the real reason of the crach.
Thanks in advance.

This particular error is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers). It may also be due to running out of memory, so try avoiding opening applications while running the installer.
