Yeah, it seems AMD64 users get no way to run java applets. Blackdown crashes down, and sun doesn't provide a 64-bit plugin.

PS. I can confirm this bug on Gutsy. The blackdown java stuff makes epiphany crash and doesn't register on Firefox.

I can confirm this one...

To install it on firefox though you can simply add a symbolic link like this:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/j2se/1.4/jre/plugin/amd64/mozilla/libjavaplugin_oji.so /home/cyber/.mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so

But after that, the java applets can be shown on the web pages, but only for a few seconds and with 100% CPU load before firefox crashes...

I use an amd64 distro and I have the same problem. I wanted to see the curve displayed with java plugin at:

http://www.boursorama.com/graphiques/graphique_histo.phtml?symbole=1rPGAZ

So I installed the j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin, created the symbolic link, and now the curve is displayed. But when I move the mouse cursor on it, firefox crashes.

If I launch firefox in a terminal, it tells me after the crash that an error file is generated in my home directory (see attachement).

It's the first time I report a bug so I don't know how the ubuntu support community is organized. That is why I'm asking: is there a reason why this bug has stayed in the New Status for so long? Is it because it depends only on Sun's good will or because there is nobody to maintain this package?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
