Bug Description

I reported one time the bug below, but it is still hapenning with Edgy :

<<
Binary package hint: acpi

I am on Dapper up-to-date. My computer is a Sony laptop from the FS series.

Sometimes, when I choose Hibernate, the computer totally shutdown instead of hibernating, although the whole process looks to be as normal as usual.

Here is my dmesg during the hibernation process :

Always concerning ACPI, I sometimes get some warning messages from Network Manager, when I wake up my computer. It says something related to ACPI didn't go well but I can't tell what.

JC, thanks for the bug report. Since this is an ACPI issue, some additional information will be necessary to diagnose the problem. Can you please attach the output of the following commands?

uname -a

sudo lspci -vv

sudo lspci -vvn

sudo dmidecode

Please be sure to run these with sudo, they require root privileges; also please be sure to attach the output, there will be too much to handle in-line.

When this happens, it would also be useful if you could attach /var/log/kern.log.0 after you reboot: This logfile will tell us what was happening when the machine died.

Thanks!

# uname -a

I attached other outputs.

I haven't had exactly an unexpected shutdown recently. But still hibernation woes often, failing on GDM and loosing the active session.

Hardy Heron 8.04 was recently released. It would be helpful if you could test the new release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . You should be able to test your bug using the LiveCD. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.
