Bug Description

Jockey doesn't offer the b43 wireless driver at any time: after a fresh install without internet, with internet, and even after I install it via "apt-get install firmware-b43-installer". This makes it impossible to install the wireless driver unless you already know the name of the package that needs to be installed.

Stenten, I used your recommendation "firmware-b43-installer", and it solved my problem. For my case, the laptop has both wired and wireless network. The wired lets me install firmware-b43-installer from the Ubuntu Software Center. Can you read and verify that the following bug report is the same as the one you are reporting? If so, could you please "Mark as a duplicate" from the top right of this webpage.

Manually installing the 'firmware-b43-installer' while connected to a wired Internet, fixed it for me too.

Installed via command line
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer

JC Martin's solution worked...I was immediately notified of newly available hardware drivers. It installed it and I immediately was connected to my router.

Acer Aspire 5005, BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g].

For me solution is working only with commented out "blacklist bcm43xx" thing in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.

Same trouble.

sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer solved it for me.

After that, no need to run Jockey as wireless networks were then available (perhaps after a reboot, I can't remember).

According to Ubuntu Software Center 11.04

firmware-b43-installer is for: BCM4306/3, BCM4311, BCM4312 and BCM4318
bcmwl-kernel-source is for: BCM4311-, BCM4312-, BCM4313-, BCM4321-, BCM4322-, BCM43224-, and BCM43225-, BCM43227- and BCM43228

Though they are different drivers/versions for Broadcom's wireless cards, the core issue of Additional Drivers not auto identifying them for installation is presented in both bug reports. I think it should be marked as a duplicate, but add an additional comment noting firmware-b43-installer vs bcmwl-kernel-source differences.
