Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Unity-desktop freezes when I do the following test-case to verify NVidia's graphics card.

http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Hardware/X/GraphicsVideoPerformance#Running%20Autopilot
See "Compiz Scale", Case ID: gpr-002.

The test case is as follows:
* I have two (2) maximized Nautilus windows on the screen.
* Then I click the Filemanager/Nautilus button (icon) once again. It activates the scale plugin. See the attached pictures.
* I try to move a button/icon while the scale window is active.
* The buttons or Unity (or Compiz?) freezes.
* I have to type:
  compiz --replace &

I tried this on intel, in my case the desktop does not freeze though the icon is stuck on the screen, everything else works fine. also you can reset the icon to its state by clicking on the blank space which is created after the icon is dragged from the launcher. Can you please confirm if that the acutal problem?

You are right.
The icon is stuck on the screen.
In most cases the icon returns to its positions if I click on the empty space.

But in some cases, the buttons seems to be totally (not frozen) but hollow and transparent. All mouse-clicks pass through to the window beneath. However the desktop and its windows and all keystrokes work fine and normally.

See the attached picture. I have marked the text by dragging along the icons, like the buttons weren't there.

BTW: When I grab and move a button/icon rather quickly up & down, the harddrive is spinning heavily and CPU usage for compiz pops up to 25% (ref: top). Harddrive keeps spinning a few seconds after the icon has landed. But this is not a real life problem.
