Bug Description
Binary package hint: unity-2d
I have Synaptic on the Unity's Launcher, and sometimes, when I launch it, it changes the icon to "software properties" and the icon now launches sofware properties, but I have Synaptic opened, and when I go to "Repositories" from Synaptic (well, I have ubuntu on spanish) the icons changes to software properties, making the synaptic icon disappear, and the window doesn't have a indicator that is running
I attach a screenshot

I cannot reproduce the first issue (launching synaptic changing the favorite’s icon to software properties), however I can reliably reproduce the second issue you describe (from synaptic, open the repositories, the favorite’s icon changes to software properties, and when closed the information about synaptic running is lost for the launcher).
This needs more investigation, but it may be due to the way synaptic itself is run. This is the value of the Exec key in the desktop file:
gksu --description /usr/share/ applications/ synaptic. desktop /usr/sbin/synaptic
