Bug Description

Binary package hint: aptdaemon

I'm used to crypt and uncrypt files using Cryptkeeper, once the program is activated by the user, a small icon on the Gnome-panel come out (usually a key or a padlock) and by clicking on it, the user can access the application menu.
From my last upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 beta1, when I double click on Cryptkeeper (I lounch it), no icon appear on the panel, causing the application become unaccessible.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

affects: aptdaemon (Ubuntu) → cryptkeeper (Ubuntu)
security vulnerability: yes → no
visibility: private → public

I confirm this bug. Unable to use it with Unity (App launches but is not accessible via Unity panel).
Note: works fine with Gnome panel...

Ubuntu 11.04
Cryptkeeper 0.9.4-1ubuntu1

It's really too bad that one cannot use cryptkeeper under Natty with the new Unity Desktop; and would have to revert to Ubuntu Classic in order to be able to open his crypted data.

I did some research and it appears that this is not a bug.
There is a setting in Unity that can be modified using gconf-editor or this command in a terminal:

gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']"

...then all apps that send an indicator to the tray works fine.

The full thing is explained on this web page:

http://www.webupd8.org/2011/04/how-to-re-enable-notification-area.html

I propose that this thread should be closed, as this is not a bug but only an undocumented setting.

Sorry I made a typo mistake:
- it's not "gconf-editor" but rather "dconf-editor" which can be installed with the package dconf-tools.

(sudo apt-get install dconf-tools)

Well , its still an annoying bug. I think Cryptkeeper would be whitelisted on install. Is it possible to do for all users with dpkg? A user would not have to google the solution at webup8 to solve this issue.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

In KDE on Oneiric, I get an empty space in the app tray (or whatever KDE calls it). Everything else works.

Same problem here, with gnome. Have been using PinguyOS and Cryptkeeper for a long time, but this morning when I click on Cryptkeeper, the "keys" icon on the top panel does not show up. So now I have no way to get to my encrypted folder. Hopefully someone a LOT smarter than I (a relative noob) can figure out a "fix" for those of us using PinguyOS.
