You need to include more information that that -- when did it stop hiding? Have you tried changing any settings in CompizConfig Settings Manager?

Oh, I take back my 2nd question. I didn't realise a .txt of all the setting was included.

I was not doing anything special, it just stopped hiding and, after about 5 minutes, it come back working.

yep, mine too. "unity 3.8.12-0ubuntu1"

It was working fine, then after an update (to the above version) it won't disappear and is infront of maximised windows :-(

Also, (in case related), I can no longer un-maximise windows by dragging the global menubar down.

Had you done a drag of any thing? An image in firefox perhaps? Is this something you can easily reproduce/have seen happen more than once? Do you have a multitouch track pad?

I confirmed it in:
- Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1
- MuseScore 1.0
on an HP Pavilion dv7t laptop.

It just happens with no known pattern.

I cannot investigate this issue further because Ubuntu 11.04 made that computer very frustrating to use, so I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10 on it.

I have also seen this bug, both when working with matlab (R2010b) and with Amarok. I seem to be able to consistently reproduce it in Amarok; it occurs when I drag a song from one part of my playlist to another. As soon as I began dragging, the Unity sidebar pops up and stays there without autohiding, even though my mouse is nowhere near it (and can be on my second monitor). Closing Amarok allows the sidebar to hide again. For what it's worth, the Amarok launcher is pinned to my Unity sidebar.

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and Amarok 2.4.0 on KDE 4.6.2.

It seems like all KDE applications don't send some "end of dragging" (drop?) event.
Reproducible also with Dolphin and Kate.

Version: 3.8.14-0ubuntu1~natty1

When I start k3b (kde application), launcher stops from hiding with almost all windows, maximized or not (k3b, firefox, double commander, gnome terminal, ...), except for jdownloader (java application) and clementine (music player). When I close k3b, expected (normal) behaviour is restored.

I sat in front of a computer after a few hours, and now launcher won't hide for any application... I tried changing its Hide behaviour in CCSM, but nothing happened. Can I somehow make it disappear? Or maybe, can I restart launcher only? It would be better for me if I could open it with Ubuntu button only and completly disable all autohide/dodge behaviours. I reinstalled Ubuntu yesterday (fresh installation) because of this and few other bugs that really annoyed me after upgrading from 10.10, but to no avail...

One more observation: I have an ATI 4870 graphic card, and I installed fglrx drivers. I just tried open source drivers (I had to restart anyway, as launcher just wouldn't move away, and I wanted to test them), and launcher, for now, works as expected even if I start k3b. Maybe this is something with current fglrx drivers? I'll leave the computer a few hours with these drivers, just to see what will happend.

There is one problem with xorg drivers: with them, the fan on graphic card is so loud, that I can't stand it (it was one of the reasons I switched to fglrx; the other is that I need opengl for work and, of course, games).

Well, it's not fglrx... I left computer on over the night, worked something this morning, and the launcher got stuck again on the desktop, it won't hide for any window, maximized or not... Next, I'll try Unity 3.8.16 from proposed repository... If that doesn't work, well, I'll have Ubuntu Classic again...

3.8.16 (which obviously isn't finished yet) seems to solve my launcher hiding problem (still working after 8 hours of usage), but it has several serious disadvantages - only Super+Number shortcuts are working (Super+A doesn't, for example), option to hide mounted drives isn't working and moving around dash with keyboard also isn't working. Additionaly, this version is about 2-3 times slower than 3.8.14 (moving windows, animations, all is slow). Well, back to Classic...

An official update to Unity, version 3.8.16, appeared today and I decided to give it a go. After 2 hours and 7 minutes of using, the launcher is again stuck on the dektop, refusing to move for any window... On the plus side, this version is much more responsive than 3.8.16 from proposed repository, volumes are hidden and keyboard shortcuts are working. Back to Classic again...

Because of changes in the Unity Dash behavior (the dash is fixed in the screen and do not auto-hide), it is not an issue to me anymore.
