Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

Whenever I go to the "save as" dialog in libreOffice (or any other program). The box opens to a size larger than my screen, and the "save" and "cancel" buttons are obscure below where I can see them. Maximizing the window fixes it, but it's very annoying to deal with every single time I save a file, and I usually just press enter, but I can imagine accidentally not saving a file due to this, which would be very bad. The box should open to a size smaller than my screen size so the buttons are clearly visible.

I've attached a screenshot of what this looks like (I erased some folder names). I hope it helps.

The same problem on my netbook screen (resolution: 1024x600). When I click on maximize, the save and cancel buttons are shown.

I can easily replicate this by setting my screen resolution to 800x600, open LibreOffice and clicking Save As. The dialog produced is too large for the screen.

For those with this problem a workaround (for me anyway) is to use Unity-2D which seems to correctly size the dialog to the screen.

Special thanks to Colin Law for the work-around!

I made a video desktop capture ranting about this problem (& a couple others): http://youtu.be/A98xaimAF-g

I read 2D is BETTER setting for netbooks anyway!

The affected applications should have a minimum window height of 500-550px. This was a problem with evolution as well from 11.04. Please do not ignore this, this needs to be fixed in order to improve the user experience for netbook users!

I have worked around this by installing compizconfig-settings-manager and enabling the "Window Rules" plugin. You can make a rule "type=Dialog" for "Maximize". Now all Dialog windows are opened maximized. You could also make a "Size Rule" to have dialoges opened at a fixed size.
