Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubiquity
Using: Kubuntu Feisty Herd 1 CD from http://
(4a5c19a1869495
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start from the CD and click Install on the desktop
2. Choose German in the language selection
3. In the keyboard layout selection step, enter some umlauts into the test field.
The umlauts (and some other characters) appear as two squares instead of äöü.
The keyboard layout itself appears to be correct (in particular, z and y are where they're supposed to be), it's just the test form that doesn't display the characters correctly.

Update, using Kubuntu Feisty Herd 2:
If I boot the system, configuring German language and keyboard layout in the boot manager, then everything works correctly in this part of the installer.
If I "forget" to configure German language and keyboard layout in the boot manager, the problem still occurs in a slightly different way: Now instead of yielding two squares, umlauts aren't displayed at all - it's as if the umlaut keys (and apparently the same set of keys that had problems before) were no-ops.
