Pop up dialogues not visible in full screen mode (linux, gnome)

Bug Description

Inkscape 0.48.1 r9760, ubuntu 11.04, gnome desktop, metacity window manager

Reproducible: always

Steps to reproduce:
1) start inkscape
2) go into full screen mode (F11)
3) open preferences (Ctrl+Shift+P)

Expected result: the preferences dialogue comes up

Actual result: nothing (apparently) happens, but the dialogue pops up as soon as you leave the full screen mode

Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.1 and 0.48+devel r10416 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386)
(no Gnome desktop, X11/Quartz with quartz-wm)

I can not reproduce with Inkscape trunk in Ubuntu Oneiric. It works as expected and the dialogue appears on top of the main window. I used the steps in the original report to attempt to reproduce.

Confirmed on Ubuntu 10.10, Inkscape 0.48.0-1ubuntu1.2 and trunk revision 10436.

Not reproduced on KDE. I guess it wouldn't hurt for GNOME users to re-test..
