Yes it is getting to be annoying. Have the apps I try to run from places lens do not start. It crashes places. I never had this problem in 11.04 with unity-2d. I can run every single one of them if I go into the /usr/share/applications folder and run the desktop file for these all day and they work but alot of them when I try it from unity-2d places - nothing. I do not even get a crash dialog. Weird.

@Aritchie: Still seeing this problem? Could I ask you to try the PPA, there is a fix there for a bug which may also fix this one.

If you are running the final release of Ubuntu, the crash reporter has been turned off, hence no crash reports.

Can I ask you to try this:
- click on an App in the Dash, but please be careful not to move the mouse during the click. You may be doing a very short drag&drop
- Try a short drag & drop of an App in the Dash. Does it crash then?

Thank you

Places app no longer exists, shell combines both places and launcher. This bug is most likely invalid at this stage.

This code has been heavily refactored for Ubuntu 12.04 Precise (released in a week), in fact the unity-2d-places application does not exist anymore and has been merged into unity-2d-shell. I'm setting this bug as incomplete, this means the bug will autoclose itself if you can't confirm it back in 59 days, please update to Ubuntu 12.04 and see if you can still reproduce this problem.
