It's rather weird for the splash screen to crash and yet the program is still working

yes, and i haven't been able to reproduce it yet, mind you i haven't played
with LO too much i just tried again to open it a few times the same way and
it won't crash now

I got the same crash again today after opening LO. I guess it only happens on first start after booting. After that LO keeps vital data in RAM to improve loading times etc.

that would explain why i can't reproduce, i've been compiling in a vbox
machine so i can't restart my kompooter :P

I just got this crash as well, together with a whole bunch of other crashes:

Happened shortly after starting up Thunderbird, right after a fresh boot of the system. This crash occured together with a crash of "bluetooth-applet", "Software Sources", Unitiy and two instances of Compiz. I'll see if I can note the bug reports of those crashes to this one.

Right after submitting this bug report (when the browser was openened), I got another instance of Software Sources closing unexpectedly (seems like every time I submit one of these crashes, another one appears...).

...and it's consistent, as it just happened again - Software Sources closed unexpectedly after submitting this bug (once again).

I figured it out:

Submitting a crashreport of "bluetooth-applet" (#838418) triggered a crash of
Unity (#838378 / #817352), submission of that crash triggered a crash of
Compiz (#838407), submission of that crash triggered a crash of
"oosplash.bin" (#835153), submission of that crash triggered a crash of "Software Sources" (#838417).

The above was reproducible (except for the bluetooth-applet crash) and started with a crash of all 5 components at the same time after a fresh boot when I had just started Thunderbird.

Happened on fresh install Ubuntu beta 1, 3 desktops, chromium-browser, firefox and opened an existing document.

Just had this happen to me on boot, Libreoffice wasn't even trying to load

i was opening a password protected oo doc file that was located on an nfs share. file opened fine. didnt even see this crash notice until i closed firefox that had been running. I was manually installing 64 bit flash player when I noticed crash dialog. dont think that had anything to do with crash. Note I am running gnome shell. thanks for all your hard work.

Was working in libreoffice with Chrome and firefox going when I got this error message.

I'm able to reproduce this every time I open LO Writer

today on latest kubuntu 11.10 this bug is it!

I got this bug after having swriter open for a while. I was going back and forth on different desktops between two open swriter documents and one open nautilus folder. The crash didn't seem to affect usability.

Opening file converted from .docx. Crash occurred shortly after opening the document, although the window did not close and I was able to continue viewing the document.

Messing around in the Options window. Right after pointing out the Sun 1.6.0_23 JRE in Options -> LO -> Java, this crash happened.

Was working in libreoffice with Chromium open when I got this error message.

Did an install on a virtual machine from 11.04 to 11.10 beta. Message occurred immediately upon start. Keyboard commands are locked out and a reinstall does not help. Default window is the Gnome Classic... mouse and keyboard are non-responsive after opening a folder window.

After upgrade to -12, but no reboot yet.

LO crash occurred after a reboot (of a successful upgrade from Natty to Oneiric - congratulations for that)

weird to me....coz...showed me this crash because of Libre Office...But that was still working...Pretty nice bug indeed...:P

I get this error frequently and for no apparent reason. Sometimes I've just opened a menu but often I'm just typing. Different other programmes have also been open at different times. Nothing occurs to me as a constant here.

Reopened and linked relevant upstream bug.

Marking issue 832516 as a duplicate as it is the same rootcause.

Just had this crash happen to me while I left a LibreOffice Writer document open for a couple minutes with a .doc. And like so many others here have said, Writer just kept on running like nothing ever happened.

Just got this on Oneiric with latest updates while using LibreOffice Writer

Got this today with libreoffice-* 1:3.4.3-1ubuntu2.

I had the crash message while libreoffice applications were opened and windows where minimized and I was doing some suspend/resume tests.

Same thing for me... Crash but running in background !!! It appear on my screen when I working in Firefox.
