Bug Description

I set up an Online Account in the System Settings application, linking it to my Google Account, and set it to be used with all services (email, calendar, contacts, etc).

No email, calendar, or contacts sharing was set up in Thunderbird. Additionally, the "VoIP and Messaging accounts" settings applet allows me to set up Google Talk, but it was not set up through Online Accounts.

Contacts have started working in gnome-contacts, Evolution and Thunderbird. As far as I know, no other app is automatically set up to use my Google account.

It's still not working for me. Just applied the latest updates and rebooted, yet my address book in Thunderbird still only shows as contacts the few people who I've been entering in my To fields manually. Nothing from neither Google Contacts nor Ubuntu One contacts (although the latter is probably because the contacts sync service has been unavailable since August: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Status).

I suspect it works in Thunderbird because of a plugin which connects to Evolution Data Server http://mozillalabs.com/messaging/eds-contacts-integration-for-thunderbird/

Perhaps the address book needs to be initialised in Evolution or Gnome-contact?

w.r.t. empathy, the bug is that empathy is not built against libgoa-1.0-dev.

For reference, on Fedora 16 these packages are built against gnome-online-accounts-devel (their counterpart of libgoa-1.0-dev):

control-center-1:3.2.1-2.fc16.src
empathy-0:3.2.1.1-2.fc16.src
evolution-data-server-0:3.2.1-2.fc16.src
gnome-documents-0:0.2.1-1.fc16.src

on Ubuntu, empathy is missing from the list

$ apt-cache show empathy | grep goa
(no result)

For each of the affected components, should new bug reports be opened, referencing this bug?

See bug 834830 where it sounds like gnome-online-accounts won't be included by default in Ubuntu 12.04. I think that's somewhat of a fix to this problem, but it's not exactly a duplicate of this bug since gnome-online-accounts should be more useful.

For Ubuntu Saucy, Ubuntu Online Accounts will support using your Google account for email and contacts. (If you also install Evolution, it should sync your Google calendar).
