Bug Description

See screenshot.

I have nautilus at position #1 in my launcher. When I click on nautilus, it pulses and opens a nautilus window, but it also creates a new icon at the bottom of my launcher. The new window is associated with the icon at the bottom of the launcher (meaning, if I click on nautilus icon in position #1, I get a new window).

I have the same issue with the final oneiric release, I attached a screenshot. First time it happens, I will try to check how I can reproduce it

I'm pretty sure I know why this is happening and a work around to fix it. This happens when you're using a custom nautilus-home.desktop launcher such as one in your ~/.local/share/applications/ instead of the one in /usr/share/applications. Many instructions for adding quicklists have you copy the original launcher and modify it. This will break it. If you want to repair this you need to add your quicklists to /usr/shar/applications/nautilus-home.dektop and then execute unity --reset-icons. You will have to repopulate your launcher as it will be back to default (with your quicklists). Hope this helps,

I'm experiencing this bug as well, but I have a stock install with no mods whatsoever for the Launcher (not even using CCSM). Also, I only have software from Main & Universe installed.

This is not the fact of using a copied .desktop to create a custom .desktop in an alternate location like ~/.local/share/applications

The 2nd. 'controlling icon' is caused by one line in the copied .desktop that ATM cannot be there. (11.10+
If you remove this from the custom .desktop then the behavior will return to as expected.

OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;

Only under the limited circumstance of a user copying nautilus.home.desktop to another location, typically to add quicklist entries. If the above mentioned line is left in the .desktop then they will get a 2nd icon when nautilus is opened
The 2nd icon will show as "Files"

This may happen with a small set of other .desktop's, have only seen it occur with gnome-terminal.desktop & then only when a quicklist entry opens a different terminal profile.
Again in this instance removing the line will keep all in the launcher icon

@Doug, I believe the original issue that was reported have been fixed in Ubuntu 11.10 what you are describing is another issue.

Omer - at the point that this bug was filed if users created a local
copy of nautilus-home.desktop & left that line in then it would use a
2nd 'controlling' icon named "Files"
In any event that will no longer happen in 11.10/12.04

(I see there is some general 'housekeeping' going on, I'll go thru my
current open bug list, there is likely quite a number that can have
status adjusted
