Bug Description

Hello,

The latest likewise-open package for oneiric (11.10) is not working (it was working correctly a few days ago). It looks like the package has a new bug introduced in shell scripts that contains the following line before the #!/bin/sh, preventing it from working...
 [init] + 'sed' '-e' 's:PREFIX_DIR:/usr:g' '-e' 's:EXECDIR:/usr/libexec/likewise-open:g'

ubuntu version 11.10
likewise-open package version: 6.1.0.406-0ubuntu3

Several scripts are being polluted with logging from 'make'. I'm doing some private builds to create a patch.

The bug is because some of the scripts were being edited by sed in the old build system. The new build system, which needed to keep some compatibility with the old build system, continued to use sed but the redirection from sed and verbose logging from make collide to produce a bad file. debian/rules was recently modified to add 'V=1' to the make command line and that's what triggered the bug.

I'm modifying the process to use the more correct input-file.in -> input-file transform used in autoconf/MakeKit.

Should likewise-open be withdrawn from the distribution? I'm not going to be able to offer up any more patches and the current version was broken with the last accepted change.

Hello Scott,

I don't think likewise-open should be withdrawn from the distribution. Any reason why you will no longer be able to offer patches?
The latest package scripts actually do work, if you ignore messages when starting/stop/restarting likewise.

Also, as likewise-open is only available on ubuntu, i've filled an ITP to get 6.1.0.62018 packaged in debian (and i have a working package so it shouldn't take much time until it's available for anyone). I don't have this bug on my version, but it might be because i use the latest sources from git. I'll need to check.

I wasn't aware that it was working -- I thought it was completely broken right now.

I'm in the middle of an office split/move and cannot really contribute to fixes. Also, after the move I will not have any real time to work on the likewise-open packaging. Since I thought the package was broken, it seemed like a good idea to remove it rather than have users install it and be disappointed with their Ubuntu experience.
