Bug Description

When I start skype, the skype icon appears briefly in the notification area and disappears. Once that happens there is no way to see the running instance of skype. The workaround that worked for me is to start another instance and do a pkill on skype and then start again. But even after that some times the icon disappears and if I ever close the skype windows, I will lose access to the running instance.

The bug is still there and makes Skype not really usable. I think it happens because of the animated Skype icon while logging in, the global menu can't handle it.

This bug is "half-fixed" now. Starting Skype by yourself is how it should be, you can see the icon. But if you let Skype start with autostart, the icon still doesn't appear. A workaround to this is writing a small autostart script where you put a delay (10-15 sec) and then it starts Skype.

Same here. The icon didn't appear at all. I first had to 'whitelist' Skype.

This problem was solved for me by installing Skype from their web page - www.skype.com.

Thanks for the bug report. Is that still an issue for you Ubuntu 12.04 with all updates applied? Can you please test that and let us know?
