deja-dup is crashing because ubuntuone-couch isn't installed. Its a regression (kind of) of bug 807979.

I reinstalled ubuntuone-couch and it the error message doesn't appear anymore. Thank you about that.

But still I am not able to access my external drives. Do you know how to handle that?

Agreed about ubuntuone-couch. The information I had a week ago was that the Ubuntu One packages would be off the CD, and only ubuntuone-installer would be there. So I changed deja-dup to not depend on the packages it needs and instead start the installer for the user.

But there was a bug for people that upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10, where the installer would be fooled into thinking everything was installed, even when ubuntuone-couch was not. So that's what caused this bug.

Now I hear we're not going to drop the Ubuntu One packages after all, so I'll add back the Recommends on ubuntuone-couch after Beta2 drops. Thanks!
