It has the following comment:

We're sorry; the installer crashed. Please file a new bug report at https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+filebug (do not attach your details to any existing bug) and a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To help the developers understand what went wrong, include the following detail in your bug report, and attach the files /var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman:

Unfortunately I am unable to dig out the log files.

The Installer hung at 51%, this is the furthest it has got to date. I went to bed and came back 7 hours later to the installer crashed message, so I am unsure exactly as to whether it crashed at 51% or got further through the process.

What version of Ubuntu were you trying to install? Also it would be helpful to have the related logs (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUbiquity/AttachingLogs ). Marking as Incomplete for now.

Thanks in advance.

The installer is reporting that a file is missing from the CD, even though it was in the list of files it decided to copy by scanning the CD not much earlier. Reality is shifting underneath it ...

This particular error is often due to a faulty CD/DVD disk or drive. It may help to clean the CD/DVD, to burn the CD/DVD at a lower speed, or to clean the CD/DVD drive lens (cleaning kits are often available from electronics suppliers). Since hardware problems are predominantly the cause of this kind of problem, and since you weren't able to produce log files, I'm going to close this bug for now. However, if you are unable to resolve it by hardware means, there's an outside chance that it may be a bug in our driver for your CD drive. If you suspect that, please reopen this bug and reassign it to the 'linux' package.
