Bug Description

Installer from kubuntu-11.10-beta2-alternate-i386.iso fails on my ASUS Eee PC 901 laptop when trying to install kubuntu-desktop with following error:
xserver-xorg-video-all : Depends: xserver-xorg-video-ati but it can not be installed.
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
(reverse translated from Russian)
I boot installer from a USB stick. All installer optins are default, except locale (Russian), no networking, custom partitioning (LVM+encryption+ext4). If I deselect kubuntu-desktop package in installer (tasksel like), installer finishes without error, but KDE is not installed of course.
I was unable to reproduce this error on virtual machine, so it's probably hardware-dependant.

I was unable to recreate this using an i386 alternate image dated 20111011. Could you possibly test this again/

I've reproduced it again on ASUS Eee PC 901 laptop. Logs are attached.
I used this image:

Bootable USB stick was created by UNetbootin.

Sorry, I've just figured out that there are daily cd image builds. I will test the new one shortly.

I hit this problem too. I didn't use unetbootin, dd'd directly to my usb stick.

Installed to encrypted lvm+btrfs. Failed around the install software phase, tasksel died.

Workaround for me was to:

<alt-f2>
chroot /target /bin/bash
mv /etc/apt/apt.sources /etc/apt/apt.source.orig
cp /etc/apt/apt.sources.apt-conf /etc/apt/apt.sources # can't remember the exact filename, something like this
apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati

and then retry the failed menu item in the installer.

I hit this as well on both the amd64 and i386 disks from USB drive with encrypted lvm + brtfs as well

Same bug in Kubuntu 11.10, main release ( not beta )

Brad's fix worked for me, cd /etc/apt

cp sources.list sources.list.orig
cp sources.list.apt-setup sources.list
apt-get update
apt-get install xeserver-xorg-video-ati
