Bug Description

Hello!

I installed fglrx and fglrx-amdccle on a fresh Installation of Oneiric 11.10 after I did all available updates. Drivers were working well first, but a view days after an update (and i sadly don't know which package is the problem) I figured out that in the systeminformations it showed vesa-driver in use and Compiz was not working that fine it used to. So I tried fglrx-updates but problem is the same. 3D not working properly and Systeminformation showing VESA.

fglrxinfo shows:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
OpenGL version string: 4.1.11005 Compatibility Profile Context

So i guess it should be working.
I know at least one guy who is having the same problem - see this thread on ubuntuforums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1862940

Maybe this is a problem with AMD, but for the reason i used fglrx out of repositories, i guess bug is locatet on oneiric-packeges.

I too have this issue. On Precise I have installed fglrx through Jockey, but in system settings>details it still says vesa. I do now know if the fglrx driver is in fact running, but I have 3D acceleration and glx gears reports 60fps. Also, I can effectively change color settings VIA amdcccle.

I am running 12.04 with a Mobility Radon HD4200 series card

It is strange situation. 3D acceleration is working, so can say that fglrx driver is running, but all desktop experience is slower than without fglrx, and video playback is not smooth.

Same here with a Mint 12 (Ocelot) and a Radeon HD 4650.

Set up a custom .deb package with the latest driver installer by AMD and installed them. fglrx module is loaded (told by lsmod) but system information still says vesa.

Really strange. I went back stock driver until there is a solution for this.

The slowness has been fixed with the latest updates to compiz, but the problem with it incorrectly reporting vesa as the driver is still present. The new fglrx 8.960 seems to be quite awesome. It is fast, and it has seemingly full compatibility with Gnome-Shell now, though possibly still a bit slow.
