after trying to update packages (just after a fresh ubuntu 11.10 persistent install on usb 4GB) i got this error

I believe this is a problem where the filesystem holding the root, '/', partition is full. It may be possible to reduce space in root partition by removing old kernels or cleaning you apt-cache via 'apt-get clean'.

I bumped into this error after using unetbootin to create a Linux Mint 13 live USB stick and trying to install lvm2.

I hit this issue when I was trying to install 'boot-repair' on Ubuntu 13.04 live usb. Was this fix part of the 13.04 release?

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

No fix was released for this bug report as free disk space is something best done by the system administrator.

3 years and no fix? It seems i cant install anything that depends on initramfs-tools. Can i at least make links for initramfs to other location that has disk space? - to cheat the program.
