Bug Description
The gnome-contacts application does not appear in the Dash. I searched for “contacts”, “gnome-contacts” and “kontakte” (localized name), but the application does not show. However, I can start it using Alt+F2 and typing “gnome-contacts”.
This might be because of the “OnlyShowIn=GNOME” entry in the desktop file. I honestly don’t understand why one would want an application to only show in one desktop environment, especially since this is not a system settings application or something closely tied to the desktop. Maybe it’s because the new GNOME Apps are “Exclusive to the GNOME experience”, as the devs state.[1]
However, since Unity is a shell for GNOME, I would expect GNOME Apps to be accessible via Dash. So maybe the right way would be to patch the desktop file to include Unity in the OnlyShowIn list, and to talk to upstream if this should become a default for GNOME Apps.
