Same problem still with the final version of 12.04 and all updates installed up to the current day.
GIMP crashes pretty much all the time when doing the first or second Save.
Save as... is not needed, just normal Save will make it crash pretty regularly.

You don't have a backup of this? It would be neat to check the differences, this might provide a hint where from this bug originates.

with vbindiff i couldnt find anything special... it seems like everything is a little different now...

the size is 29KB now (was 58KB) and 23378B r different (according to cmp -l)...

Not sure about passwords, pretty sure it doesn't contain thumbnails. I've just attached the source code to a simple program which dumps dconf databases in a readable format.

To build it, you need development tools and the glib2-devel and dconf-devel packages installed. Compile instructions are in the comment at the beginning of the file.

Please run the program as follows:

0) Compile it as described in the file
1) Copy the old dconf/user file to ~/.config/dconf/old
2) Dump the old database: ./dconf-dump old > /tmp/dconf-old.out
3) Dump the current database: ./dconf-dump user > /tmp/dconf.out
4) Find out the differences: diff -u /tmp/dconf-old.out /tmp/dconf.out > /tmp/dconf-diff.txt
5) Review /tmp/dconf-diff.txt and edit out any passwords or other private data
6) Attach the file containing the differences (/tmp/dconf-diff.txt) to this ticket.

Thanks!

It happened after loading a PNG file, shrinking it and saving it to a new file with other different name. Then, GIMP closed itself unexpectedly.

This happens when creating a new file, i.e. on Save As, not Save. Creating an empty file outside of GIMP then saving to that works.

Deleting ~/.config/dconf "fixed" the problem for me. Source: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=828015

This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '17'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the
'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Fedora 17 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-07-30. Fedora 17 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

A better bug to track in the GNOME bug tracker would be https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=681845 (the current one's duplication target), but I do not see a way to change the bug URL.
