Bug Description

After updating the package "unity-greeter"

> from version 0.1.1-0ubuntu1 -> to version 0.2.0-0ubuntu2

I can't select any other desktops - it starts with the former selected "unity 3D" only.

Available desktops are:

GNOME (3), TERMINAL (1), UNITY, UNITY-2D

Downgrading to the former package allowes to select all.

Supplement:

This happens on a single-user-system only and if the option of "/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf"

> allow-guest=false

is set. If the "guest-account"" or an additional user is available, then by changing the user the "desktop-selector" will be shown!

Not sure if bug 919359 (which I just reported, after seeing the bug description here but not looking further down in the comments) could be considered a dupe. I have the hidden "desktop-selector" behavior described in comment #3, but contrary to how the bug description makes it sound, once it comes back I *can* select and log into any of my other desktops just fine. So, that last bit I can't reproduce.

Yes, this happened with me too. I disabled guest session to try if I can somehow else get the icon back - clicking on it's place or something - but it doesn't work. So if you're the only user and you don't allow guest session you can only log into the default session.

small note about the current behavior & the proposed fix, ( which does work fine here, cog shows on initial login
After choosing a session from the menu the cursor disappears from the password box.
Similar to what happened for a bit during, iirc, 11.10 dev
