I am also seeing this bug. There is a newer version of minitube than the one that is currently available in the repos. This application has something to offer for people that are using a laptop and in light of Adobe's announcement of dropping support for Linux, this application could become very popular among users.

This was posted on the forum and I thought it might shed some light on the problem.

Here minitube, either the 1.6 in repo or 1.7 from site doesn't crash but both have significant issues. Seems they'll play some video's, usually music ones, but for most nothing or just sound.

What does work very well is the 1.7 version, (pre-built binary) with phonon-backend-gstreamer removed & phonon-backend-vlc installed instead

So at least here the issue is with gstreamer, not minitube

This is also confirmed here by extracting the repo minitube_1.6-1_i386 package, taking the minitube binary (1.6) out & running it.
It also works just fine with phonon-backend-vlc

I could able to reproduce this defect.

1. Open minitube version 1.6 on Ubuntu 12
2. Search some word
3. Select first video to play.
4. Select some other video to play while first video is playing.
5. Mintube will automatically be closed.

Just to note -
This crash will not happen when minitube is using phonon-backend-vlc, one is able to switch videos at will & minitube will play them all.
( Currently there are quite a number of youtube vidoes the gstreamer backend won't decode, crash or not

I am also getting this in kubuntu 12.04.

Sometimes I have sound and no video, sometimes it just crashes, other times it just freezes.

Very rarely, it actually plays a video with sound.

Would someone out there in the ubutu community please fix this app mini tube , I would like to say what a breath of fresh air this app is , its one of the best apps from the ubuntu community so far and it needs fixing asap other than that this ubuntu 12.04 lts is fantastic needs a bit more fine tuning has far as windows clear fonts is concerned , but its getting there just looks a bit bland on the graphic side needs to be more clearer but other than that good Job well done

after testing a bit more -
This crash can happen with the vlc backend but very rarely (almost never here

The issue with sound but no video is 100% a bug with the phonon-gstreamer-backend package

So of those affected may wish to push on this bug so it's easier to switch to the vlc backend -
